Sally Roth writes about plants and birds in America. Some of her books are useful outside of America. The Backyard Bird Lover's Ultimate How-to Guide contains 200 things you can do to attract specific birds into gardens by a combination of feeding and other methods. If the birds mentioned in the book live in your neighbourhood, the ideas will work in your garden. Some of the ideas can be translated to other species.

Most of the ideas work in a temperate climate. Many will fail in hot or humid climates. For hot and humid climates, consider placing food out only in the early morning, perhaps when you are enjoying breakfast, then take the food in for the hot part of the day.
